La certificazione IELTS, molto diffusa nel Regno Unito, in Australia e in genere in tutti i paesi anglofoni, è stata sviluppata dal British Council in partnership con IDP IELTS Australia e University of Cambridge ESOL. La certificazione IELTS è disponibile in due moduli: Academic e General.
Nella versione Academic è conseguita, nella maggioranza dei casi, al fine di accedere alle Università inglesi; la versione General è prescelta invece da coloro che desiderano lavorare all’estero con un grado di istruzione inferiore ad una laurea o da chi necessita, per fini di immigrazione in paesi anglofoni, di una certificazione linguistica in inglese.
